Mike Morella, Chief Accounting Officer
Mike is the Chief Accounting Officer, having joined the company in December 2014. He has worked in the oil and gas industry for over 25 years. Prior to joining Vitesse, Mike spent seven years as the Controller for two startup oil and gas companies. Mike cut his teeth at KPMG in Midland, Texas as an audit manager for oil and gas companies. He then moved up to Controller at Westport Oil and Gas, during which time Westport successfully completed its initial public offering. At Westport, Mike was responsible for incorporating and converting accounting operations for several large mergers and acquisitions. When Westport was acquired by Kerr McGee in 2004, he continued working with Kerr McGee until it was subsequently acquired by Anadarko. Mike received his B.A. in Accounting from Montana State University in 1989. He spends his free time watching his three boys play basketball, baseball, soccer, tennis and flag football.
Michael Sabol, Chief Reporting Officer
Michael Joined Vitesse in April 2016 as the Chief Reporting Officer having spent the previous seven years working to bring several biofuels and other energy startup companies to market. He brings over 25 years of financial experience with both public and private companies in the Biofuels, Technology, Manufacturing and Finance sectors to his role at Vitesse. At Vitesse, Michael is responsible for Reporting functions as well as certain Finance and Human Resources functions. Prior to Vitesse, Michael was the Chief Accounting Officer at Ensyn Technologies and Luca Technologies and Chief Financial Officer at Range Fuels Inc. He started his career with seven years in public accounting at Price Waterhouse, Philadelphia leaving as Audit Manager after spending time with the audit, tax and consulting practices, and then spent 15 years in the telecommunication industry with Verizon, LCI and Qwest Communications. During his time at Qwest, Mike directed the SEC reporting, corporate and tax accounting, technical accounting and investor relations departments. Michael has BS degrees in Accounting and English Literature from King’s College and is a Certified Public Accountant, but enjoys himself most while hiking, biking, skiing and spending time in the Colorado outdoors with his wife and two children.
Lisa Odem, Senior Financial Analyst
As Senior Financial Analyst, Lisa is responsible for supporting the CEO and CFO in all business development and corporate planning efforts, including analysis of acquisition opportunities, budgeting, financial reporting and corporate strategy. Prior to Vitesse, she spent three years in oil and gas investment banking with Scotia Waterous in Calgary, Canada where she worked on various mergers and acquisitions, divestitures, and debt and equity financings.
Lisa holds a Bachelor of Commerce Degree (with Distinction) from the University of Calgary. She has passed all three levels of the CFA Program and may be awarded the charter upon completion of the required work experience. She is married and enjoys traveling, reading, snowboarding and is training for a triathlon.
Matt Olson, Landman A&D
Matt joined Vitesse in June of 2014 and is responsible for sourcing acquisitions and divestitures and performing due diligence. He maintains the asset and works with operators to correct disputes over interests owned by Vitesse. Prior to Vitesse, Matt spent five years at Transcontinent Oil Company where he worked on various leasing projects, abstracting, title examination, curative and other land tasks. He has an RL certification from the AAPL and a B.A. in Biochemistry from the University of Colorado. A consummate sports fan, Matt loves water skiing, his two dogs, and spending most fall Sundays at Mile High Stadium.
Brian Southern, Special Projects
Brian Southern joined Vitesse in January of 2014. Brian is responsible for many different roles in reporting, financial analysis, acquisition/ asset analysis and managing corporate insurance. He works closely with the accounting and land departments to provide cash flow planning, lease and well interest analysis, capital and expense analysis and supports all of the Company’s business procedures. Brian has worked in various business financial roles for 16 years, the last 13 in the oil and gas industry. He spent three years in revenue accounting at Forest Oil Corporation, then the next eight with SM Energy in various financial analyst, reporting, and treasury roles. Brian has a B.A. in Marketing and Finance from Abilene Christian University and M.B.A. in Finance and Accounting from Regis University. He is married with three children and enjoys a host of outdoor activities and spending time with his family.
Dane Roybal, Financial Analyst
Dane started working with Vitesse in May 2015. His main responsibilities include acquisition and divestiture analysis, assisting with financial reporting, and other tasks supporting the CEO and CFO in day-to-day operations. Dane has been personally investing in Bakken non-operating working interest acreage since 2011 and has participated in over 85 gross wells. Prior to that, Dane spent five years working as a biotechnology equity analyst at Sagient Research, a private consulting firm. He worked directly with pharmaceutical companies, analyzing competitors’ drug development pipelines and the future cash flow potential of drugs under development. Dane graduated with an undergraduate degree in Finance from Washington University in St Louis. He is a huge Denver Broncos fan and proudly owns a Broncos Snuggie.
Ben Messier, Analyst
Ben joined Vitesse in July of 2018 and supports the CEO and CFO in business development and corporate planning. Prior to Vitesse, he spent four years in oil and gas investment banking with Credit Suisse and Intrepid in Houston, TX where he worked on mergers and acquisitions, restructuring, and capital markets transactions for upstream and oilfield services companies. Ben holds a B.B.A. in Finance from the University of Texas at Austin and an M.B.A. from Rice University. Ben is married and his hobbies include basketball, traveling, working out (upper body only), reading, and Microsoft Excel.
